VICTORIA, B.C. -- The Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer have invited Victoria Highlanders FC standout Brett Levis to trial with them this week.
The 20-year old midfielder/striker had a great season with the Highlanders. Levis led the team in points during the regular season with 23 on nine goals and five assists. He finished ninth in the 64-team PDL and earned a place on the All-Western Conference Team. In the playoffs Levis added three goals to lead the Highlanders to the PDL’s Western Conference Championship.
Levis flew from his native Saskatoon to Vancouver yesterday and had his first trial with the Whitecaps today, which he good about.
“I’m definitely nervous but quite excited. Today was the first session and it went well. I felt like I fit in well and now I can adapt and see how the next few go,” said Levis.
This opportunity came as a surprise to Levis who had flown home to begin training camp with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.
“It was out of the blue,” said Levis. “The Huskies training camp had started up and my coaches mentioned that they (Whitecaps) asked about me when I was in Victoria. The assistant coach called Bryce (Chapmen, Head Coach of the Huskies) and asked to set up a trial.”
Levis credits his outstanding season with the Highlanders and the experience it provided him as a large part of him earning the trial.
“Definitely the Highlanders are one of the major reasons why I’m here,” said Levis. “I had a really good season with the Highlanders and the playoffs helped me get seen more. I thank the team and everybody working with the team to help get me here. It was a great season.”
The Highlanders wish Levis the best at his trial with the Whitecaps and in his upcoming season with the Huskies.
