TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues today announced the USL Premier Development League Team of the Week for Week 2 of the season, honoring Victoria Highlanders goalkeeper Elliot Mitrou as Player of the Week after he saved two penalty kicks in the second half of the Highlanders’ 1-0 victory against reigning PDL champions the Portland Timbers U-23s on Saturday afternoon.

Starting in place of regular Highlanders goalkeeper Trevor Stiles, who was absent due to injury, Mitrou made saves in the 60th and 88th minutes to record his first shutout.

Reading United AC’s Matt Sanner leads the forwards on this week’s Team of the Week after scoring a hat trick against the Brooklyn Knights in Reading’s opening game of the season. He is joined by Cameron Hepple of the Kitsap Pumas and Esteban Bayona, who scored twice for the Laredo Heat in their 5-1 victory against the RGV Grandes last Friday night.

Ventura County Fusion midfielder Daniel Barrera earned his place on the team with a strong all-around performance that saw him record a goal and three assists, while the Central Florida Kraze’s Fredrick Brustad and Orange County Blue Star’s Luis Silva each bagged a pair of goals in their team’s victories over the weekend.

Defensively, Fort Lauderdale Schulz Academy’s Alex Trujillo and MPS Portland Phoenix’s Kyle Clinton each earned nods after helping their sides record shutout victories, while the Westchester Flames’ Ryan Dillon-Curran had an assist in his side’s 3-0 victory against the New Jersey Rangers.
