TUKWILA, Wash. – Sounders Women goalkeeper Erin McNulty has signed a professional contract to play in the Women’s Premier League of Norway. McNulty will join Avaldsnes IL immediately thanks to her first pro contract.

“I'm excited to have an opportunity to get better and learn from my new coaches and teammates," McNulty said.

Following the summer where she earned W-League All-Western Conference honors and was a finalist for Goalkeeper of the Year, McNulty has been snatched up by the fifth-place team in the top Norwegian league.

“Playing for the Sounders Women this year provided me with a quality environment and assisted me in my development that will be beneficial to me making an impact on my new team," McNulty said.

“I have spoken to the Norwegian National Team Coach, Even Pellerud, and he has assured me that the environment will be good for her," Sounders Women Manager Hubert Busby Jr. said. "She will obviously need to work hard to displace the current goalkeeper [Icelandic International], but it will be good for her development.”

Avaldsnes IL was promoted to the Toppserien last season after finishing on top of the First Division. The Norwegian league is 13 matches into the 2013-14 season, with Avaldsnes holding a 5-2-6 record and for 17 points.

McNulty will fight for the starting goalkeeper spot with the current Icelandic National Team No. 1, Guðbjörg Gunnarsdóttir.
