PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Following its first road win, Phoenix FC looks to build on its momentum in the first of its last three home games against the Harrisburg City Islanders at nationally recognized Reach 11 Sports Complex on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. PT. In their last meeting, fans saw a see-saw battle with Harrisburg's Yann Ekra scoring the opening goal. Phoenix battled back to tie with a goal by Isaiah Schafer that was delivered into the box by Reid Schmitt. The Islanders scored the winning goal in the 73rd minute and held on to the 2-1 win.
The Wolves, however, are undefeated at home and have suffered only one loss to Charleston on the road in the month of July. Phoenix FC is looking to build on its three wins over Antigua and Charlotte and its tie with league leaders, Richmond Kickers. A win against Harrisburg would even the series and keep pressure on Dayton and Tampa Bay for the eighth playoff spot.
Playing in their 10th Anniversary season, the Harrisburg City Islanders are in third place in the league table. The Islanders are five points behind second-place Orlando and eight points behind the first-place Richmond Kickers. Harrisburg is coming off a strong performance against the Dayton Dutch Lions on July 24th. The Wolves will have their hands full with Lucky Mkosana, who scored a hat trick in the game against Dayton and has scored in the last three games he has played.
Phoenix is coming off a strong performance, as well, having beat the Charlotte Eagles 4-0 on July 27th. New addition David Robert Paulscored two goals in the first half of the game. Donny Toia and Cameron Vickers added two more to punctuate the win. Neal Kitson gained a shutout while withstanding a barrage of 14 shots from Charlotte in the second half.
