WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads are set to host the Harrisburg City Islanders at Legion Stadium on Saturday night just three days following their draw with Orlando City on Wednesday night. Wilmington has remained undefeated at Legion Stadium in their last five home matches this season.
When the Hammerheads last encountered the City Islanders on June 5, each side remained scoreless in the first half. Harrisburg took a 1-0 lead early in the second half as the ball was deflected off Wilmington goalkeeper Philip Tuttle from a corner kick and into the back of the net. Harrisburg played with a man-advantage for the final 20 minutes of the game as Wilmington midfielder Daniel Steres was sent off after bringing down Harrisburg’s Stephen Basso, and Coady Andrews scored the City Islanders' second goal in the 75th minute as his side took victory.
Harrisburg currently trails leader Orlando City by two points in the league standings, sitting in second place. The Hammerheads prevented Orlando from gaining a larger lead on Wednesday night as a late goal by Steres from the penalty spot earned a 2-2 draw, giving both teams one point.
With nine matches left in their regular season, Wilmington is still looking to secure a spot in playoffs. Of those nine matches, six are scheduled at Legion Stadium as the Hammerheads look to make a run into the top eight and a place in the postseason.
The Wilmington Hammerheads will travel in-state to face the Charlotte Eagles in their next game on Saturday, July 13 at Queens University for their next road match. For further information regarding the Wilmington Hammerheads, please contact (910) 777-2111 or visit www.wilmingtonhammerheads.com.
