WATERLOO, Ontario -- K-W United FC is excited to announce a friendly match with world-renowned Portuguese club, Sporting Lisbon on July 17th at Budd Park in Kitchener, Ont.
Sporting will be holding their preseason training in Alliston, Ont., at Nottawasaga Inn and will be bringing their first team for a pair of exhibition matches against teams in Southern Ontario.
Sporting Club de Portugal has won 18 Portuguese Championships and a European Cup Winners Cup in their over 100 years of existence. Sporting is well known for their system of player development, including international superstars such as Christiano Ronaldo and Luis Figo. Sporting will play K-W United FC in their inaugural season.
"This is a coup for our club and the region," United President Barry MacLean said. "K-W has never hosted a team of the calibre of Sporting and we are excited to have the opportunity to compete with such a skillful and quality soccer club."
Sporting are slated to play K-W United FC at Budd Park in Kitchener on July 17 at 6:30 pm. Sporting will also play at BMO Field in Toronto on July 21 against Uruguayan champions Penarol. Tickets for the K-W United friendly will go on sale early next week, on July 1, through Ticketmaster and online atwww.kwunitedfc.com.
