Tuesday, June 25, 2013

BECKLEY, W.Va. -- The Southern West Virginia King's Warriors are set to host the West Virginia Chaos on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Carter Field at the Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex. Wednesday's clash between the King's Warriors and Chaos is a makeup game from Tuesday, June 18 which was postponed due to bad weather causing unplayable conditions at Carter Field.

"As a Christian organization and with respect to the churches in our area that offer Wednesday evening services, it is our general policy not to schedule home games on Wednesdays," said Dr. James Blume Jr., the Founder and President of the King's Warriors ownership group, the Nehemiah Group. "However, this game is a makeup game from the June 18 match that was postponed and was rescheduled by the United Soccer Leagues for this date. Because of the unusual circumstances we have agreed to play on Wednesday, but moving forward we will continue our policy of not scheduling home games on Wednesdays."

Wednesday's game will be the deciding game in the 2013 "Coal Cup Clash" series between the two teams. Southern West Virginia took a 3-1 win against the Chaos in the season-opener played on May 18 in Beckley, while West Virginia took a 4-0 victory against the King's Warriors on May 28 in Charleston.

Southern West Virginia (2-4-0) will looks for its second win in a row after snapping a four-game losing streak last Friday in a 3-2 home victory over the SC United Bantams. Harry Sherwood, Curt Hays and Billy Forbes all scored for the King's Warriors while Southern West Virginia goalie Erik Mozzo earned the win in net making two saves while facing five shots.

The Chaos (4-4-2) are coming off a two-game road trip to Northern Virginia and Virginia Beach. Last Friday, the Royals shut out West Virginia 2-0. Saturday night the Chaos scored in stoppage time on a James Pucci goal to earn a 1-1 tie against the Piranhas.

Wednesday's game will conclude the 2013 three-game season series between the two in-state rivals. Lifetime the King's Warriors are 1-3-0 versus West Virginia.

NEXT HOME GAME: Following Wednesday's makeup with the West Virginia Chaos, the King's Warriors next home game will be this Saturday night at 7 p.m. when Southern West Virginia will host the Virginia Beach Piranhas at Carter Field at the YMCA's Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex.
