CHARLOTTE, NC. - The Lady Eagles suffered their second consecutive loss on Saturday night, dropping a 2-1 decision to VSI Tampa Bay FC. Macky Wingo's loan goal was not enough to overcome as Tori Abnathi's brace that gave the visitors their first victory since May 19.
The Lady Eagles struck first in just the 7th minute as Leah Fortune found Wingo at the center of the penalty area. Wingo was able to control the ball with pressure and place the ball in the corner giving the Lady Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Lady Eagles goalkeeper Robyn Jones was tested for the first time in the 21st minute after Sharla Pasariello put the ball on frame. Jones made a good diving save to protect the lead.
In the 32nd minute, Tampa Bay had a great scoring opportunity after a handball just outside the box but the ensuing kick was well over the crossbar.
Momentum shifted to the visitors as the half came to a close and just before break Tampa Bay found the equalizer. Abnathi beat Jones with to even the scoreline just before the whistle.
Both teams struggled to find rhythm at the start of the second half. Tampa Bay capitalized on a quick counter attack in the 66th minute. Abnathi found herself on a one-on-one breakaway beating Jones and scoring her second goal of the match, giving Tampa Bay the lead 2-1.
As Tampa Bay applied pressure, the Lady Eagles' Whitney Brannan saved a third goal, on the line, with a kick goal line save in the 83rd minute.
