HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The growing rivalry between the Harrisburg City Islanders and their cross-state foes the Pittsburgh Riverhounds will resume on Friday night as they meet for the second edition of the Keystone Derby this season.
The Islanders have had a strong season so far and look to continue their winning ways in the league as they have won four out of their last five league games. Harrisburg sits firmly in second place in the league with 28 points (9-3-1) and will be within one point of league leading-Orlando City should they take victory against the Riverhounds. Pittsburgh is currently in ninth place in the league, but a win on the Island could move them as high as seventh in the standings after Friday night's games.
The Islanders opened up this season's series between the teams in Pittsburgh, and beat the Riverhounds in their first game at Highmark Stadium. The Islanders defeated Pittsburgh 2-1 in their home opener with Lucky Mkosana and Sainey Touray starting their high-scoring campaigns late in the game.
Jose Angulo, a former Islander, scored the first goal of the game in the 70th minute to give the Riverhounds the lead. Touray was able to knot the game up at one, eight minutes later. The game was looking like an opening day draw until Mkosana put in a goal in the 90th minute to get the Islanders their first win of the season.
The Islanders boast a few top players in the league with Touray and Nick Noble near the top of their respected positions. Touray is tied with for third in both overall points and goals on the season. Noble, the Islanders’ goalkeeper, is at the top for goals-against average, shutouts, wins and has let in the fewest goals in the league this year. Noble was rested in the Islanders’ friendly match against the Philadelphia Union on Tuesday but will start Friday.
