ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Rochester Rhinos will get back to action this week when they host their rival the Charleston Battery on Saturday at 7 p.m. in their 2011 USL PRO home opener at Sahlen’s Stadium.
Saturday’s match will feature the 2010 USL-2 Champion Battery and the 2010 USSF Division 2-Pro League regular season champion Rhinos. Charleston has a 3-1-1 record and is currently 2-1 record on the road. The club currently stands in third place in USL PRO’s American Division. The Battery will face the Riverhounds on Friday in Pittsburgh before heading to Rochester on Saturday.
Charleston is led offensively by midfielder Nicki Patterson who has tallied two goals and two assists this season. Two former Rhinos play for the Battery in veteran defender John Wilson, who spent the 2004-05 seasons with the Rhinos, and Nigel Marples, who appeared in one game with Rochester in 2008.
Rochester enters the match having not played since a 3-2 win on April 23 in Dayton. Rochester has a three-way tie for the club lead in scoring with Anthony Hamilton, JC Banks and Alfonso Motagalvan all tied with two points. Goalkeeper Neal Kitson has played every minute in goal for Rochester through three matches this season.
Rochester has the all-time lead in the series with an 11-7-6 edge. The two teams tied the last two matches they played in 2009.
