Ottawa Fury News Release - www.ottawafury.com

Saturday, June 8, 2013

Toronto, ON - The Ottawa Fury's perfect start to the season came to an end in Toronto on Saturday evening as the Lynx and Fury battled to a scoreless draw.

Kori Chapic and Emily Gielnik would produce the Fury's best opportunities of the game, but were unable to get one past a stingy Lady Lynx defense that has now surrendered just one goal in six games this season. Britt Eckerstrom would collect her first career shutout in the Ottawa goal.

Ottawa were slow coming out of the gate in the early going against Toronto. After the Fury began to find their form the match played out in the midfield for a majority of the first half. The Lady Lynx pressed the Fury with every opportunity they had. Britt Eckerstrom had to be on her toes in the first half making a key save to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.

The second half was much of the same as the first half with the game being played out between the penalty boxes. Kori Chapic connected on a great cross from Lauren Hughes, but the shot went over the bar and another great cross from Emily Gielnik was unable to be converted by anyone in Fury colors.

With the draw the Lady Lynx (3-0-3) and Fury (3-0-1) now stand first and second in the Central Conference with Ottawa sitting two points behind Toronto with two games in hand. The Fury are next in action on Wednesday, June 12 at 7 p.m. when they face the Laval Comets in their home opener. The game will feature a special banner unveiling ceremony before kickoff to honor the club's 2012 W-League Championship.
