TAMPA, Fla. – The W-League announced its Team of the Week for Week 4 of the 2013 season today, honoring Toronto Lady Lynx goalkeeper Kailen Sheridan as Player of the Week after the Canadian youth international posted a trio of shutouts on the road as Toronto was 2-0-1 during the week to move within a point of the Central Conference lead.
Sheridan, headed to Clemson University in the fall, started the week with a scoreless draw at K-W United last Wednesday, and followed up with a 3-0 win at Quebec City on Saturday and a 1-0 win at Laval on Sunday. She is joined on the Team of the Week by teammate Rachel Melhado, who earned a defender slot for her work in the three games. Joining Melhado on defense are Seattle’s Jaelene Hinkle, who score the game-tying goal vs. the Colorado Rush, and Pali’s Satara Murray, who marshaled a defensive unit that allowed one goal in a pair of wins.
Long Island midfielder Kim DeCesare leads the midfield after scoring both second-half goals in a 2-1 comeback win against New York, and she is joined by Washington’s Amber Stobbs, who tallied a goal and four assists in a 7-0 win against North Jersey. Charlotte’s Leah Fortune dominated in wins at Atlanta and Carolina, scoring the game-winner against the Silverbacks, while Santa Clarita’s Stacey Rodwell recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win vs. Los Angeles.
Dayton’s Emily Fillion leads a trio of forwards chosen after her highlight-reel bicycle kick equalizer against Carolina made SportsCenter’s Top 10. She is joined by New Jersey’s Jessica Fuccello, who scored a late equalizer at Virginia Beach and the game-winner at Fredericksburg, and Ottawa’s Emily Gielnik, who scored and recorded a game-high six shots in a 4-1 win at London.
