TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues announced the USL PRO Team of the Week for Week 5 of the 2011 season today, honoring Antigua Barracuda FC forward Peter Byers as Player of the Week after the Antiguan international provided a dominant attacking presence in the club’s three road victories last week.
Byers scored four goals in the first half as Antigua romped to a 7-0 victory against Puerto Rico United, and then proved a constant threat in each of the ‘Cudas 1-0 victories against River Plate Puerto Rico and the Los Angeles Blues that saw the side jump to the top of the USL PRO International Division.
A pair of Byers’ teammates were also honored this week, as goalkeeper Keita De Castro and defender George Dublin held things down at the back as Antigua recorded shutouts in all three games.
The Richmond Kickers maintained their perfect start to the season, and the duo of midfielder David Bulow and forward Matt Delicâte were both named to the Team of the Week after their respective performances in a 6-0 defeat of Dayton. Bulow scored twice for the Kickers, while Delicâte had a goal and two assists to make him the first player to reach double-digit points for the season.
The Charleston Battery and Wilmington Hammerheads also had a pair of players named to the team, with the Battery’s stalwart defender John Wilson earning his second Team of the Week nod after the Battery conceded one goal in two games and teammate Nicki Paterson being honored after his goal and assist helped the Battery defeat the Charlotte Eagles on Friday night.
The Hammerheads are represented by defender Ivan Becerra, who proved a stabilizing force for Wilmington in its 3-1 victory against Pittsburgh. Midfielder Paul Nicholson is also honored for his game-winning goal in the same match.
Rounding out the team is Orlando City’s Lewis Neal, who was named to the Team of the Week for the second time this season after his game-winning goal to lift the Lions past F.C. New York on Saturday, and Puerto Rico United’s Mauricio Turizo, whose goal proved the difference in a 3-2 victory against Sevilla FC Puerto Rico on Friday night.
