OCEAN CITY, N.J. -- After defeating the New York Red Bulls U23 team 2-0 last Tuesday, the Ocean City Nor’easters have been rewarded with a home game against USL PRO team the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The game will take place at Carey Stadium on Tuesday night with a 7:30 p.m kickoff.

The Riverhounds are struggling this season with a single victory against new franchise Phoenix FC two weeks ago. This was their first victory of the 2013 season after seven games without a win, and they are coming off a 2-2 draw on Saturday against the Dayton Dutch Lions at their home, Highmark Stadium.

The Riverhounds reached the second round of the Open Cup after struggling with amateur team RWB Adria from the USASA. RWB Adria took Pittsburgh to a penalty shootout after having a 1-0 until the halftime break, only for Seth C'deBaca to pull the Riverhounds even with a goal in the 53rd minute. After two scoreless periods of extra time, the Riverhounds won 5-4 on penalties to set up the fixture with the Nor’easters.

The prize for these two teams is a third-round game with Major League Soccer's Philadelphia Union. The third round of the U.S. Open Cup is where all of the teams who enter want to be as the MLS teams enter the competition. The prestige and financial rewards for the smaller professional teams and amateur teams is what makes the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup such a unique and fantastic tournament in American sports.
