TAMPA, Fla. – VSI Tampa Bay FC announced that former American college and professional soccer midfielder Stacy Bishop has signed with the team for the 2013 W-League season, pending USSF approval. Bishop, a native of the Tampa area who last played for the Atlanta Beat of Women’s Professional Soccer, will make her debut for VSI Tampa Bay FC this season.
Bishop has experienced success at every stop in her career. She played for Land O’ Lakes high school and led it to the state title in her senior year. She still holds the all-time scoring record for Pasco County with 192 goals.
After high school Bishop accepted a scholarship to Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where she played for the Tigers in 2003-04. After her sophomore year, she transferred to the University of Florida and played for coach Becky Burleigh’s Gators in 2006 and 2007.
Bishop was recognized as a first-team All-American and a Mac Hermann semi-finalist in 2006. In both 2006 and 2007, she was an Academic All-American and a first-team All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) selection. She was named 2007 SEC Tournament MVP.
Bishop made 10 appearances for the Boston Breakers in 2009, and signed with the Atlanta Beat for the 2010 WPS season. She appeared in every game for the Beat in 2010 and ranked in the top five in minutes played.
With such a storied career, Bishop joins VSI Tampa Bay FC for the 2013 season and will suit up alongside former teammates as the squad chases the Southeastern Conference title. VSI opens its 2013 season Friday when hosts the Carolina Elite Cobras at 5 p.m. at Plant City Stadium.
