PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Riverhounds will host RWB Adria Tuesday night for a first round match in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The first-ever meeting between the Riverhounds and Chicago-based Croatian side will take place in the nationʼs newest soccer stadium, Highmark Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. kick off.
Carrying a three-game undefeated streak into Tuesday nightʼs matchup against RWB Adria, the Riverhounds will look to continue their momentum, as they host the Dayton Dutch Lions on Saturday night in league action. The Riverhounds are coming off their first win of the 2013 USL PRO season last Thursday night at Highmark Stadium. Pittsburgh striker Jose Angulo recorded a goal in each half to lift the Riverhounds past the Phoenix FC Wolves, 2-1. Angulo has been the only Riverhound to score at Highmark Stadium thus far, raising his goal tally to three in Station Square this year.
RWB Adria was founded in 1959 by Croatian immigrants in the city of Chicago. A highly successful soccer club in Illinois, RWB Adria competes in the National Soccer League and is believed to have won the most trophies of any club in the state. This will be RWB Adriaʼs fifth appearance in the U.S. Open Cup. In their first-ever appearance in 1991, RWB Adria advanced into the semifinal round, but lost to the Brooklyn Italians 1-0.
The Riverhounds return to USL PRO action this Saturday when they host the Dayton Dutch Lions at Highmark Stadium. Promoting the game as ʻArmed Forces Nightʼ, the Riverhounds will honor representatives from the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and Navy throughout the night. The grandstand is sold-out, but limited seats are still available in the supportersʼ section. Standing room only tickets along the highly favored river view concourse are also available. To purchase tickets, visit Riverhounds.com/tickets or call the Highmark Stadium Box Office at (412) 224-4900.
