TACOMA, Wash. – Jordan Schweitzer will return to the Pacific Northwest to play for Sounders FC U-23 after a very productive freshman year with University of Denver. Schweitzer captained both the Sounders FC U16 and U18 Academy teams, in his two years with the Sounders FC Academy.
Having played in 19 of 20 games in his freshman season, Schweitzer was an All-MPSF honorable mention with the Pioneers.
“It was a good year. I learned a lot, and my experience with the [Sounders] academy definitely prepared me for the jump,” said Schweitzer on his freshman year with Denver.
A graduate of Henry M. Jackson High School in Everett, WA, Schweitzer has always been hard working, on and off the pitch. A charismatic kid with a great leadership presence, he has captained teams in high school, Washington state ODP and Sounders FC Academy. Over the past few years, he has been involved in coaching at Sounders FC summer camps, where he helps instill his work ethic and love of the game to the next generation of soccer players in the Puget Sound region.
Sounders FC U-23 coach, Darren Sawatzky, said, “We want to make sure that players coming out of the Sounders FC youth system are good young men. Jordan represents this type of player.”
A self-described "blue-collar player", Schweitzer is a big, tough, defensive midfielder with a high work rate, great leadership skills and deep desire to win.
“We are looking forward to seeing Jordan play this summer after his year at Denver,” said Sawatzky. “He has worked very hard to get better each year and his development speaks for itself.”
With the Sounders U-23 coming off a highly successful 2012 season, Schweitzer knows that the competition for playing time and the caliber of players filling out the roster will make for an exciting summer.
“I'm really excited to get back to Seattle and play for Darren,” said Schweitzer on coming to play for Sounders U-23s. “This team is already looking amazing and I want to come in and work hard and just hope to earn some minutes and work towards winning a championship.”
