JUNCOS, Puerto Rico – Puerto Rico United earned its first victory of the USL PRO season as brothers Christian and Mauricio Turizo each found the net in a 3-2 victory against Sevilla FC Puerto Rico at the Estadio Elevadito Gonzalez on Friday night.
Sevilla took the lead in the 15th minute as Stanley Guirand found Alain Gustave for his second goals of the season, but PRU hit back quickly to equalize through Ljubomir Kozic in the 27th minute.
The game then turned United’s way as it received a penalty in the 36th minute that was converted by Christian Turizo. Sevilla was also reduced to 10 men as Nick Cardenas received his second yellow card in conceding the penalty, and just two minutes later Mauricio Turizo struck to give United a two-goal advantage at the break.
Sevilla was able to pull a goal back with an hour gone through Alan Acevedo, Gustave providing the assist, but was unable to find an equalizer before the final whistle.
Both teams have plenty of time to recuperate before their next contests, Puerto Rico United playing host to Antigua Barracuda FC on May 12 and Sevilla playing host to United on May 19.
