VICTORIA, B.C. -- The Victoria Highlanders are pleased to announce the resigning of Kalem Scott. The 18-year-old Georgia native stands 5-foot-10 and weighs 170 pounds and grew up in the Comox Valley; he has played soccer in British Columbia since elementary school. He will return to the Highlanders defensive line for the second consecutive season after starting 14 of the 16 games he played for the team last year.
“Kalem’s a highly versatile defender who we’ll be able to use in various roles as required,” said Steve Simonson, Highlanders’ head coach, “As a 17-year-old last year he was able to play 90 minutes every game for us and now has that year of experience under his belt. He’s had good growth as a play away at Trinity Western. Hopefully he’ll have a good year with us and a bright future in the game.”
Kalem returns after his first season playing for Trinity Western University where he studies fine arts. In the season there he started most games, mostly playing ninety minutes, and scored one goal in Trinity Western’s campaign that ended just short of the bronze medal in the Canada West Championship. Kalem has also played for the Vancouver Whitecaps’ Residency squad in 2010, BC’s provincial team and the Upper Vancouver Island Metro league where he was named Most Valuable Player in consecutive seasons.
“The Highlanders FC is a top class organization, so I’m very excited to be coming back for the 2013 PDL season,” said Scott, “I’m looking forward to joining a great group of talented players and being a part of a successful season.”
Scott is a young, talented defender who has excelled in every league he’s been a part of. He’s consistently been moving forward in the football world and adding his talents to an already strong Highlanders back field should make them tough to score on.
