FULLERTON, Calif. – The LA Blues are set to host the Wilmington Hammerheads for the first game of the season's two-game series on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. PT at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, Calif. The Blues are looking to maintain their defensive prowess at Titan Stadium, while Wilmington is looking for their second win of the season.
Los Angeles returns home after a three-game road trip that last weekend took it to Florida. The Blues, 3-3-0, most recently played VSI Tampa Bay FC in a 3-2 loss last Sunday. George Davis IV scored his third goal of the season, while the second goal was deemed a Tampa Bay own goal. Goalkeeper Carl Woszczynski made six saves on the night. The previous Friday, the Blues lost to Orlando City, also by a score of 3-2. Defender Conor Hearn scored his first goal of the season off a Rodrigo Lopez corner. Lopez, who leads the league in assists with four, later scored his first goal of the season off a penalty kick after being pulled down in the box.
The Blues are 2-0-0 so far this season at Titan Stadium, having claimed victories against Phoenix FC and Orlando City. They will try to maintain that form as they welcome the Hammerheads, who opened the season with a 2-0 victory against Antigua Barracuda FC at Legion Stadium last Friday night. Kyle Greig scored his first goal of the season, and his professional career, against the Barracudas, earning him Team of the Week honors. Midfielder Paul Nicholson scored the second goal of the night.
Los Angeles has had success in the past at home against the Hammerheads. Last season, the Blues took a 2-1 victory, with Allan Russell's penalty kick proving the game-winning goal, and a 2-2 draw in their two games on the west coast. Wilmington, however, took a 4-2 victory on their home turf as they reached the USL PRO Playoffs, falling in the final to the Charleston Battery.
