WAYNE, N.J. - As the 2013 W-League season draws near, the North Jersey Valkyries are delighted to unveil Leanne Champ as the newest signing for their 2013 roster. The TSF Academy coach boasts an impressive playing background that includes 10 senior caps with the England National Team, five English Women’s Premier League titles, two English Women’s FA Cup winners’ medals and a Women’s UEFA Cup winner’s medal.
Champ also enjoyed a six-year spell with Arsenal, three years with Chelsea and last year saw Leanne undergo her first year in the States with the Philadelphia Fever.
"I'm really excited to represent the Valkyries this year," Champ said. "There's a real buzz around the place after last year and I hope that I can be a part of helping this team go even further this season.”
Champ said she is excited to get started with her new teammates.
“There’s a lot of exciting, young players here [with the Valkyries] and I can’t wait to start training with them," she said. "Playing in America, it's a totally different game, and I'm looking forward to the new challenges this will bring."
Valkyries Head Coach Mark White is pleased to add a player of Champ's caliber.
"Leanne brings quality, and most importantly experience at the very highest level," he said. "This signing clearly shows the intent of the Valkyries to push even further this season."
The Valkyries' season gets underway against familiar opposition, as they make the journey to TCNJ on May 22 to take on the New Jersey Wildcats. Last season saw the Valkyries pick up only two points from a possible nine against the Wildcats, a record White will be keen to improve on this year.
