CAROLINA, Puerto Rico – River Plate Puerto Rico will try to earn its first victory in USL PRO this season as it hosts Antigua Barracuda on Friday night at 8: 00 p.m. at the Estadio Roberto Clemente Walker.
Both teams are coming off victories, Antigua having defeated International Division rivals Puerto Rico United 7-0 on Wednesday behind four goals by Peter Byers. River also took victory on Wednesday night, defeating FC Mayagüez 3-1 in the PRSL, which should lead to an exciting contest on Friday night.
River’s players and coaches are expecting a difficult game with Antigua likely to employ a quick, physical game. That style of play is well known by the River players, who are expected to counter with their normal style of holding possession, controlling the midfield and finding explosiveness in the offensive end.
It would therefore not be surprising should River’s coach Fabián Zermatten adjusted his line-up from Wednesday, realigning some key players to give the team more offensive flow.
With the characteristics of either side being diametrically opposed, it paves the way to what should be an interesting contest where the performance of the players will decide the outcome.
Antigua is in the middle of a three-game road trip, which finishes in Los Angeles on Sunday afternoon. River will next travel for a pair of games in Antigua next weekend in what could be a good guage as to who might reach the USL PRO playoffs at the end of the season.
