READING, Pa. – One of college soccer’s top prospects is coming back to Reading this summer. Reading United A.C. welcome Georgetown University midfielder Steve Neumann back to the club for his third season. The dynamic midfielder from New Hope, Pa. has also been named the team captain for the 2013 Premier Development League season, which kickoffs on Saturday, May 11th at Exeter High School’s Don Thomas Stadium.

Neumann enters the 2013 PDL season with a sterling resume highlighted by his impressive 2012 NCAA season at Georgetown University. The midfielder earned All-Big East First Team honors for the second consecutive year in 2012, scoring 10 goals and recording 13 assists while starting all 26 matches for the Georgetown Men’s Soccer Team. The former Council Rock North grad scored a hat-trick in the Hoyas’ College Cup semifinal victory against local rival, the University of Maryland. Neumann’s performance helped Georgetown reach the College Cup final for the first time in school history and propelled Neumann to the top of many 2014 MLS SuperDraft watch lists.

United Head Coach Brendan Burke is thrilled to have Neumann back at Reading for another season. “Steve will be entering his third year with our club and the progression he has shown from year to year has been fantastic. He was a major difference maker for us last year and lit up the Final Four last fall with Georgetown. He will be our club captain this year for a number of reasons and I don't think there is any more that the coach of a team at any level can say about how they view a guy than giving him the armband. We believe that this is a player with special qualities and a player that also works very hard on a daily basis, we are very excited to have Neumann lead the group this year.”

Neumann is very happy to be back with United and is looking forward to the challenge of bringing a PDL Championship to Reading. “Reading United is an organization that I had always heard to have a great reputation in terms of how it's run and the quality of the soccer that Reading plays. It has honestly been an honor to play with such high quality players. It has been very beneficial for me as a player to be on a team that I could play with in the summer months that has this type of commitment to improving players while also bringing in great players.”

On being chosen to wear the captain’s armband for United, Neumann was humbled by the selection. “It was quite an honor to be named the captain of Reading United. Knowing of the quality of players to have played for Reading in prior years that are now in the pros, it will be my goal to maintain this type of quality for the club.”

Reading United kickoff their 2013 PDL campaign on May 11 at 7PM against the Westchester Flames. Tickets are available at www.readingunitedac.com.
