CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston Battery head to Charlotte, N.C. on Friday night for a 7 p.m. match against the Charlotte Eagles looking to rebound from their first defeat of the USL PRO season. The game is being played at Winthrop University Stadium and will be broadcast live in Charleston on 1340 AM The Boardwalk and via an audio only webcast at www.charlestonbattery.com with the pre-game show starting at 6:45 p.m.
Friday’s match against Charlotte is part of a back-to-back weekend for the Battery, who return to Blackbaud Stadium on Saturday night to take on the Pittsburgh Riverhounds at 7:30 p.m.
Charleston defeated Charlotte 1-0 in the opening game of the season on April 9; the lone goal was an own goal scored by Charlotte after Battery striker Dane Kelly angled a ball across the face of goal from the right side of the penalty area.
The Battery saw their unbeaten start to the season end last Saturday night in Richmond as the Kickers came from behind to earn a 2-1 win. Levi Coleman put Charleston ahead with a 15th minute header but Richmond scored twice in the second half to maintain their 100 percent start to the season.
Pittsburgh also plays a game on Friday night as the Riverhounds visit the Wilmington Hammerheads. The Riverhounds earned a road win against the Harrisburg City Islanders last weekend in their second game of the season with Shintaro Harada scoring the game-winner.
Pittsburgh is coached by former Charleston Battery midfielder Justin Evans, and their roster includes the 2010 USL-2 Goalkeeper of the Year Hunter Gilstrap and last years USL-2 Rookie of the Year Jeremy Deighton.
