PROVO, Utah – The BYU Men’s Soccer Team will play Real Salt Lake, the state’s professional team, in an exhibition match Monday at the Rio Tinto stadium. The game will kick off at 6:30 p.m. The Cougars have played Real on previous occasions, and serves as an opportunity for the BYU players to step up their game and play at a professional level. The Cougars currently play in the Premier Development League, the top U-23 development league in North America.
“We’re excited to play against Real once again,” BYU head coach Chris Watkins said. “It’s a great opportunity for our players to learn from the professionals.”
The Cougars sent three players to the USL PRO Combine last earlier this year, where they trained and played with top players from around the country.
“We have annually enjoyed our games throughout the years with BYU, and are very excited to finally hold this fantastic Utah soccer event at our Rio Tinto stadium home,” RSL head coach Jason Kreis said. "RSL looks forward to a competitive game against our state’s best PDL side, and we look forward to welcoming friends from all over Utah for this unique event.”
