HARRISBURG, Pa. -- The Harrisburg City Islanders are pleased to announce the return of midfielders Morgan Langley and Tom Mellor for the 2013 USL PRO season. This is Langley’s third season with the City Islanders, and Mellor's second, as both look to build on strong 2012 seasons.
Langley totaled 331 minutes in 20 appearances during his rookie season in 2011, and then had three goals and two assists last season. Following the 2011 season, Langley signed with the City Islanders' MLS affiliate, the Philadelphia Union, making one appearance for the club. Langley played four years of college soccer at Swarthmore College.
Langley arrived in Harrisburg as Swarthmore College's all-time leader in career points (95) and assists (47). In his final season at Swarthmore, Langley produced one of the best offensive seasons in the school’s history, recording 14 goals and 14 assists to earn Centennial Conference Player of the Year honors.
“Morgan played an important role in our success that season," said City Islanders coach Bill Becher. "His season was cut short by an injury and I know he is ready to make an impact again.”
Mellor made 21 appearances for the City Islanders in 2012, scoring four goals in his rookie season. Prior to arriving in Harrisburg, Mellor had a successful career at Notre Dame College in Ohio, where he was named an NAIA First Team All-American. Mellor, a native of Oldham, England, began his career in the United Kingdom with the Manchester United Academy.
“Tommy had a strong second half of 2012 and I believe he will have a breakout season this year,” Becher said.
Training camp continues this week and the fourth of six preseason matches occurs on the road, Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. against the University Of Maryland Baltimore City (UMBC). The Islanders' 10th Anniversary season kicks off at Pittsburgh on Saturday, April 13 and the home opener is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 7 p.m. against the Rochester Rhinos.
