AGUADA, Puerto Rico – Peter Byers struck four times in the first half as Antigua Barracuda earned its second consecutive victory in USL PRO with a 7-0 win against Puerto Rico United at Aguada Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Tamorley Thomas gave the ‘Cudas the lead in the seventh minute before Byers scored twice in five minutes, to open his account for the season midway through the half.
PR United, which had earned a 2-2 draw against Orlando City in its last outing on Friday night, was unable to recover, and Antigua’s Orlando Mitchum added a fourth before Byers completed his hat trick in the 42nd minute.
Byers was then put through on goal in first-half stoppage time, rounding the goalkeeper before tucking away his fourth with the final kick of the half. Substitute Ranja Christian added the final goal in the 78th minute.
Antigua, which moved into second place in the International Division with the victory, continues its three-game road trip on Friday when it faces River Plate Puerto Rico on Friday night at Roberto Clemente Walker Stadium before travelling to Los Angeles for the Blues’ home opener on Sunday at Titan Stadium.
Puerto Rico United will try to rebound when it faces Sevilla FC Puerto Rico on Friday at Josue ‘Elevadito’ Gonzalez Stadium.
