CHARLESTON, S.C. -- The Charleston Battery have transferred Ryan Richter to Major League Soccer’s Toronto FC. Per team and MLS policy terms of the deal were not disclosed. Richter played 29 games for the Battery in 2012 and was a member of the USL PRO Championship-winning team.
Richter logged 1,792 minutes with the Battery in 2012 and finished the season with two goals and four assists. Richter started all three of the Battery’s postseason games, including the Championship match.
Ryan Richter was originally drafted as the fifth overall pick in the first round of the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft by Philadelphia Union but was subsequently loaned to the Harrisburg City Islanders of USL PRO and made his debut against the Charleston Battery on June 4 in a game Harrisburg won 1-0.
Richter is the second player from the 2012 Battery squad to move up to Major League Soccer this spring, joining goalkeeper Alec Kann who was signed by the Chicago Fire.
Battery preseason continues Tuesday with match vs. Coastal
The Charleston Battery continues its pre-season schedule Tuesday evening with a 6 p.m. road match against Coastal Carolina University in Myrtle Beach. The Battery defeated Coastal 2-1 in the reverse fixture played on March 7 at Blackbaud Stadium.
