FULLERTON, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Blues open the 2013 campaign against USL PRO newcomers Phoenix FC on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. PT at Titan Stadium on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.
The Blues have gone through a transformation this preseason, adding Warren Barton to the front office as the team’s general manager. And Barton’s first order of business was to name Jesus Rico-Sanz as head coach.
The Blues had a busy preseason which saw a loss to Major League Soccer’s Chivas USA, but wins against Cal State Fullerton and the San Diego Flash. Forward George Davis IV is back with the Blues after his loan to Orlando City last season, while midfielder Allan Russell and defenders Cory Miller and Matt Hall will provide stability and leadership to the young team. Two Blues players to look out for this game will be former MLS players forward Chris Cortez and midfielder Rodrigo Lopez, who was recently added to the club's roster.
The Blues defensive unit will have its hands full with Phoenix’s Aaron King, who is expected to lead the Wolves' attack in the absence of Darren Mackie, who suffered an injury in training and is unavailable for the newcomers. King had 21 goals in two seasons for FC Tampa Bay before a knee injury kept him sidelined in the 2012 season.
Tickets for Saturday night's contest are available through ticketfly.com, and the game will also be available to view via USLNation.com.
