WILMINGON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads have officially announced the re-signing of defender Tom Parratt for the 2013 USL PRO regular season. Parratt will return for his third season on the pitch at Legion Stadium as both a player and Camp Director for the Wilmington Hammerheads 2013 Camp Series.
“I’m delighted to be back for my third season – I love Wilmington,” said Parratt. “My first year here with the team we had a great regular season, but a poor playoff run. Last year we had a poor regular season on the road, but outstanding playoffs in getting to the final, unfortunately falling at the last hurdle. It’s time to put the two together and have both a good regular season and playoffs with a strong push to winning the league championship.”
Last season, Parratt appeared in 16 regular season matches, recording one assist. The 27-year-old Scotsman then scored the game-winning goal for the Hammerheads in the quarterfinals of USL PRO Playoffs against the Richmond Kickers, scoring in the 90th minute to give Wilmington a 3-2 victory that send the Hammerheads to the semifinals, then later onto the USL PRO Championship Game.
Off the field, Parratt will be serving as the Wilmington Hammerheads’ 2013 Camp Series Director this season, with assistance from his fellow Hammerheads teammates. Parratt’s experience with the youth soccer program in the Wilmington area over the years marks an asset to the Hammerheads camp program.
“On top of playing this year, I’m thrilled to be the Hammerheads Camp Director,” said Parratt. “I’ve been heavily involved in the youth side of the game here in Wilmington and know how strong it is. Given that Wilmington is such a soccer-loving community, it is important to encourage its relationship between its pro team and potential stars of the future.”
Not only is the camp program beneficial to the youth involved, Parratt believes the value and interaction of the experience is influential to all Hammerheads players.
“It’s uplifting for the players in seeing the support they get from the community and the positive effect that they have on those that they encounter,” he said. “It is exciting for the kids to put names to the faces that they see play in the Hammerheads blue and white. We have the best fans in the league. Being able to play on field and be more involved off field is a prospect that I am looking forward to.”
The Wilmington Hammerheads will begin their 2013 Camp Series with a Spring Break Camp, March 25-28.
