Tuesday, March 12, 2013

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - Colorado College standouts Jessie Ayers and Kate Scheele have joined the Colorado Rapids Women’s roster for the 2013 W-League season.

Both Ayers and Scheele are coming off a successful season for the CC Tigers, who were 14-3-5. Scheele featured in the net 12 times for the Tigers and made 49 saves. She is also an active member of the U.S. U-18 Women’s National team and was also a part of the Seattle Sounders Women in the 2012 W-League.

Scheele expressed her excitement about joining the Rapids organization.

“I am so excited and honored to have the opportunity to play with the Colorado Rapids Women this upcoming season," she said. "Being able to join such an incredible group of players and program is a dream come true.”

Ayers also had an exceptional season with the Tigers, scoring seven goals from the midfield. She was named an NCAA All-American and was part of the Conference USA All-Conference team. She was also named Midfielder of the Year in Conference USA for the second consecutive year.

Ayers also expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming season.

“The Colorado Rapids Women have an outstanding program and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to join the team," she said. "It’s going to be an exciting season.”

Ayers and Scheele will join a strong group of returning Rapids Women players who are hoping to build on a strong first season in the W-League. Rapids Women Head Coach Daniel Clitnovici is thrilled to add these two talented athletes to the squad.

“Jessie and Kate are not only good players now but they are true professionals in the making," Clitnovici said. "Jessie is a player I wanted to bring to the Rapids Women last season but we couldn’t do it for one reason or another, and after proving again that she is a quality player with Colorado College, I’m happy to finally have her on board.

"Kate is a good young keeper that possesses enormous talent and she is already in the spotlight with the national teams. She is really someone to be watched for the present and the future, I have full confidence in her ability for the 2013 season."

The Rapids Women kick off their season on May 25 with the “Derby” Home opener against the Colorado Rush.
