USL News Release

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

TAMPA, Fla. – United Soccer Leagues announced the USL PRO Team of the Week for Week 4 of the 2011 season today, honoring Antigua Barracuda FC forward Stefan Smith as Player of the Week after the 21-year-old scored twice to lift the ‘Cudas to the first victory in the club’s history.

Smith scored twice in three minutes after Antigua had fallen behind early against Sevilla FC Puerto Rico on Saturday night, leading the side to a 3-2 victory. It was Smith’s first professional start after being brought on as a substitute late in Antigua’s earlier contest against Sevilla.

Another pair of forwards who scored twice were named to the team, with Orlando’s Max Griffin earning his second Team of the Week nod for his two goals against Puerto Rico United on Friday night at the Citrus Bowl. Tomislav Colic also bagged a brace for the LA Blues as they defeated Puerto Rico United 4-2 this past Wednesday night.

Pittsburgh’s Shintaro Harada was also named to the side after his game-winning goal for the Riverhounds in the Keystone Derby on Saturday against the Harrisburg City Islanders, while Mauricio Turizo of Puerto Rico United and Alfonso Motagalvan of the Rochester Rhinos were also named after putting in big performances for their teams.

Also named to this week’s team were defensive stalwarts Sascha Görres of Richmond and Dustin Bixler of Harrisburg, both of whom put in strong performances, while goalkeeper David Sierra of Sevilla helped his side earn its first victory by recording a seven-save shutout against Antigua on Thursday.
