WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads have officially announced defender Jamel Wallace as the first new addition to the Hammerheads' squad for the upcoming 2013 USL PRO season. Wallace will make his debut with the Hammerheads after a season with San Diego Boca FC in 2012.
Although this is Wallace’s inaugural season with the Hammerheads, it is not his first appearance in USL PRO. Wallace made 16 appearances with the Richmond Kickers in 2011, when Richmond reached the semifinals of the U.S. Open Cup and USL PRO Playoffs.
“I am looking forward to having Jamel on the field this season,” said Hammerheads head coach David Irving. “He traveled with us during our recent tour in Turkey - giving him the opportunity to play with a select group of our returning players this season. I believe he will prove to be a real strength to the roster.”
Prior to Wallace’s transition into USL PRO, he had a one-year stint with the Kitsap Pumas of the USL Premier Development League in 2010. That same year, Wallace was drafted by the Seattle Sounders in the fourth round of the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.
During his collegiate career at San Diego State University, he made 69 appearances; scoring seven goals and adding one assist. Wallace was Tri-Captain in 2009, earned All-Pac-10 (Second Team) in 2008 and All-Pac-10 (Honorable Mention) in 2007.
