CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Lady Eagles are excited to announce that former Lee University Forward Jamie Achten has agreed to join the team for the 2013 season. Achten, a Franklin, Tennessee native, played for Lee University from 2008-11 and finished her career with 83 goals and an NAIA record 91 assists.
Lee University was the first team ever to win four consecutive NAIA Women's Soccer Championships from 2008 to 2011. Achten was named the 2010 and 2011 NAIA Player of the Year and was also a four-time NAIA First Team All-America selection while playing for the Flames. She was also named Capital One College Division Academic All-America of the Year. The award is given to the top scholar-athletes chosen from the all-divisional team members from throughout the country.
"I'm very excited to be playing for the Eagles this summer," Achten said. "It's perfect timing for me in my journey to try a new team in a new city. All of the staff and players I've spoken with from the team have been extremely encouraging and enthusiastic about this upcoming season. There is a lot of anticipation for the season, and I suspect my high expectations will be exceeded. Mostly, I'm looking forward to meeting my teammates and learning a new team. There are so many dynamics that play into making a great team, and figuring out what works best is half the fun. It should be a great season with lots of solid competition."
"I am so excited to bring in Jamie for the 2013 season," Lady Eagles GM Jeremy Auyer said. "She is exactly the type of person we are looking for here at the Eagles. She is of high character and morals, she has a strong faith in Jesus Christ, and she has excelled on the field. Jamie will be a high level of leadership on and off the field for our team this year."
