WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads are beginning to make headway towards completing their 2013 team roster and are pleased to announce the re-signing of Hammerheads players Steven Perry and Cody Arnoux for the 2013 USL PRO season. After making their debut appearance with the Hammerheads in 2012, both strikers will return to the pitch at Legion Stadium for their second season under the instruction of Head Coach David Irving.
Perry was first signed to the Wilmington Hammerheads in 2012 following his collegiate career at the University of Notre Dame and with Finnish third division club Ekenäs IF. During his time at Notre Dame, Perry also played for the Indiana Invaders of the USL Premier Development League. In 2011, Perry was drafted in the third round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft by New England Revolution.
"I am very excited to be joining the Hammerheads for another season. You can't ask for a better place to play than Wilmington,” said Perry. “Personally, I am looking to have a productive year and, as a team, I hope we can build upon our success from last year."
Perry appeared in 12 matches collectively during the 2012 season amongst being injured with exercise induced compartment syndrome, inhibiting his intense play level to no more than 15 minutes. Two months after undergoing surgery and rehabilitation, Perry played the final 10 games of the regular season, including playoffs.
Arnoux, a Wilmington native, filled a late slot in the Wilmington Hammerheads’ roster in July of the 2012 season after having previously signed with MLS’s Real Salt Lake and Vancouver Whitecaps, as well as a stint with Everton of the English Premier League prior.
“It is really exciting to be back on the field with the Hammerheads and some familiar faces,” said Arnoux. “This year will be about working harder to secure that championship and to succeed where we fell short last season.”
A hometown favorite, Arnoux began playing soccer in Wilmington during his youth with Cape Fear Soccer Club and then for New Hanover High School whom to this day still plays their home matches on the turf at Legion Stadium. Arnoux returns to the same field that opened a wide range of opportunities that jump-started his soccer career almost seven years ago.
