ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- After going 0-2 on the road to begin the 2011 regular season, the Rochester Rhinos will remain away from home this week as they will travel to take on the Dayton Dutch Lions on Saturday, April 23 at 7 p.m.
The Dutch Lions have begun the season 0-1 after falling to the defending USL-2 champion Charleston Battery on Saturday night, 2-1. Kolby LaCrone netted his first goal of the season for Dayton in the loss. Rochester and Dayton have met just once prior to Friday’s match, that coming in last season’s U.S. Open Cup. The Rhinos blanked Dayton 2-0 in Rochester in the tournament's first round.
Dayton is in just their second year of existence, having promoted themselves from the USL’s Premier Development League last year.
“They are a well coached and play well as a team” said Rhinos Head Coach Bob Lilley. “They played us tough on our field during last year’s U.S. Open Cup tournament. I would expect the same from them this time.”
Rochester played to a pair of 1-0 losses last weekend in Richmond and Wilmington. Rochester has dropped its first two matches of the regular season for only the third time in club history. The other two times were during the 1996 and 2008 seasons. Rochester reached the league championship game in 1996 and the semifinals in 2008.
Rochester will open their 2011 home season on Saturday, May 7 against the defending USL-2 champion Charleston Battery. Tickets to that match and all 12 USL PRO matches can be purchased at the Sahlen’s Stadium Box Office, Ticketmaster outlets, charge by phone at (800) 745-3000 or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
