TAMPA, Fla. – The inaugural Super Y-League Annual General Meeting was held last week as part of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Convention, with team representatives from across the country coming together for a review of the past season and breakout sessions that including speeches from University of Maryland coach Sasho Cirovski and U.S. Women’s National Team player Leslie Osborne.
Among the topics discussed at the AGM were the league’s minimum standards, game-day operations, communications and public relations, and the assignment of division alignment for the upcoming 2013 season. Team representatives were also able to use breakout sessions to discuss specific opportunities and challenges that each individual division faces.
“We are absolutely delighted at the turnout, and response, to our first Super Y-League AGM,” USL Youth League Senior Director Jason Arnold said. “This has been a big first step toward a successful 2013 season, and has laid the building blocks as we look to build the league’s size and visibility in the future.”
One of the main topics of the weekend was recruitment, on which subject Cirovski addressed the AGM. Osborne also spoke about her career so far, and her development as a young player that allowed her to move through the ranks to become part of the U.S. Women’s National Team and a member of the Chicago Red Stars in the newly formed National Women’s Soccer League.
The NSCAA’s CEO Joe Cummings also spoke at the event, highlighting the strong relationship between the NSCAA and USL, and the goals of the NSCAA Convention.
“We were very excited and pleased to assist the USL in hosting their first Youth AGM, in conjunction with our own Convention,” Cummings said. “The event went very well and we look forward to an ongoing relationship with the Youth Department of the USL and the league as a whole.”
The event also offered the opportunity for coaches and administrators to share best practices at a club and division level, and a chance to network as the league looks to continue its growth in the future.
“Giving our coaches and administrators the chance to work together, and get the chance to know each other away from the playing field, will allow for greater relationships within the league in the future,” Arnold said. “With the success we had this year, this will become an annual fixture in the Super-Y League calendar.”
