TAMPA, Fla. -- VSI Tampa Bay FC is pleased to announce central defender Kyle Hoffer as the club's first signing ahead of its inaugural season in USL PRO in 2013. Hoffer comes to VSI Tampa Bay FC from defending USL PRO champions the Charleston Battery. Starting 22 out of 27 games for the Battery this past season, Hoffer played for 1,993 minutes, good for second on the team for all defenders. Prior to playing for the Battery, Hoffer has excelled in every side he has competed with.
Hoffer played in the PDL for the Jersey Express in 2010 before making his professional debut in USL PRO in 2011 with FC New York under current VSI Tampa coach Matt Weston. Hoffer started all 24 games, playing every minutes of the regular season on his way to USLPRO All-League Team. After a successful season, Hoffer found himself abroad on a three-month loan to EIF of Finland. The St. John’s standout has already written a great start to his professional career, now he hopes to bring a USL PRO Championship to Tampa Bay.
"I am really happy to be a apart of a new franchise in VSI Tampa Bay FC," Hoffer said. "I am looking forward to playing for Matt and helping this team achieve success within its first year. It is exciting to bring a pro team to downtown Tampa and I hope the fans will be as excited as I am."
"I am excited to be working with Kyle again," Weston said. "Hoffer is a player who is destined for the next level. Kyle has everything in his game to take him there. We are looking forward to providing the platform for Kyle to continue to blossom here in Tampa and as an organization couldn’t be more pleased to bring a current USL PRO champion into our inaugural season roster as our first official signing."
VSI Tampa Bay FC is excited for Hoffer to provide the leadership and winning mentality that he has demonstrated his entire career in the club's inaugural 2013 USL PRO campaign.
