BRADENTON, Fla. – The 2012 Super Y-League North American Finals presented by Umbro got off to a rousing start on Friday morning as more than 130 teams began their quest for a championship at the beautiful soccer facility at IMG Academy. Top-level action throughout the 12 divisions was on display as numerous college coaches and scouts observed.
One of the highlights of the day came away from the pristine fields, however, as U.S. Women’s National Team legend Mia Hamm was on hand to take part in the festivities. Pictured with USL President Tim Holt, SFC Dave Therrel and Charlotte, Abby, Nicole, Marisa, Lindsay and Coach Jimmy Toms of the Northern Virginia Majestics, the FIFA World Cup Winner and Olympic Gold Medalist greeted all of the teams, and giving each player a commemorative medal for reaching the Finals, thanks to the USL’s recent partnership with the Army National Guard.
“We are absolutely thrilled that Mia was able to join us for the opening day of the Super Y-League North American Finals,” Holt said. “Her legendary career has been an inspiration to many young players, a large number of whom will be competing here at IMG Academy. Our new partnership with the Army National Guard could not have begun more perfectly.”
