HAMDEN, Conn. -- CFC Azul are pleased to announce that head coach David Kelly has agreed to extend his contract for the 2013 PDL season.
"Last year was one of the most enjoyable seasons since I’ve been in football - CFC Azul was a resounding success,” Kelly said. “I am honored that the club have extended me the opportunity to coach again this year. The team’s ambition was to become a role model organization in PDL, and we’re well on our way to achieving that. The owners and front office were top notch, and I am proud of the team we put on the field. I am looking forward to another season with the Azul."
New to the PDL, CFC Azul finished their 2012 campaign tied for fourth place in the Northeast Division with an overall record of 6-5-5. The Azul finished third in the Northeast Division in goals scored (24) and second in goals against (14).
Kelly is currently the assistant coach of the men’s soccer program at Southern Connecticut State University and has worked with a handful of college-based teams in the state. He will name his coaching staff for the 2013 season in the coming weeks.
“When team President Steve Coxon and I got together at the end of last season to review our inaugural season we both had nothing but praise for what Dave Kelly did,” said General Manager Robin Schuppert. “Dave instilled a sense of professionalism that the entire club benefitted from. He is the right man for this job and I’m extremely excited for our second season.”
The club will announce further details regarding tryouts for the 2013 season in the coming days.
