PHOENIX – Phoenix FC, Arizona’s premier professional soccer franchise celebrating its inaugural season in 2013, has signed two more players to their inaugural roster. Player contracts have been completed with midfielder/defender Reid Schmitt and forward Aaron King.

Schmitt is a local Phoenix product by way of Desert Vista High School and a short stint with Mesa Community College. The club’s intent was to sign quality local players and Phoenix-born Schmitt, 25, fits the bill after having played a full season for FC Tucson of the PDL. Schmitt appeared in all 16 of FC Tucson’s regular-season contests in 2012, scoring a goal and adding two assists, as he helped the side reach the playoffs in its first season in the league. Schmitt’s contract is pending United States Soccer Federation (USSF) approval.

King, 28, is a seasoned professional known for his outstanding speed, size and skill. With experience at several professional U.S. soccer levels, King is expected to be an offensive force. In his last stop prior to signing with Phoenix, King scored nine goals for FC Tampa Bay in 2011 before an injury in the 2012 preseason while on trial with Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls ended his season prematurely. King’s contract is also pending USSF approval.

“As promised, we will be signing local talent as evidenced with the Reid Schmitt signing. Aaron is a player with tremendous upside and is fully healthy after a February injury,” said General Manager Rui Filipe Bento.

Per club policy, financial details of player contracts will not be disclosed.
