Wichita Wings News Release -- www.wichitawings.com

Thursday, November 8, 2012

WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita Wings are excited to welcome the Milwaukee Wave for their second home match of the 2012-2013 MISL season. To kick off the regular-season series with Milwaukee, the Wings will host the Wave on Friday night at 7:35 p.m. CT at Hartman Arena.

While this will be the Wings’ third game of the season, this match will be the first of the year for the Wave. Last year, Milwaukee’s first game was also against the Wings and in that match, the Wave earned a narrow 15-13 victory at home. The second game between Wichita and Milwaukee was also a close one, with the Wings falling to the Wave by three points, 13-10. The third time the two met up, Wichita traveled to Milwaukee, with the hope of bringing back a win for the series against the Wave. At that point in the season, the Wave was on a winning streak that the Wings could not break on the road, and handed the Wings a significant 15-4 loss in the final match between the two clubs.

The first time Wichita hosted Milwaukee last year was as part of a doubleheader weekend. The Wings took the victory in the first game, winning 18-16, however in a low scoring second game, Milwaukee edged out the Wings 9-6. Out of the seven games between the two teams last year, the Wings won one out of the seven. This year, the Wings are scheduled to play Milwaukee in four games.

So far this season, the Wings’ new additions to the roster have brought a new look to the team, but still not a win. Wichita fell to 0-2 after dropping two games to Missouri in opening weekend MISL play. Andrew Hoxie, a new Wings forward, is the leading scorer in the league at this point in the season with 14 points for the season, including two hat tricks. The Wings plan to come out strong against Milwaukee in their second home game in order to gain their first win of the season.

Key match-up: Milwaukee’s Goalkeepers vs Wichita’s Attack

Milwaukee has two confident and capable goalkeepers on its roster in Nick Vorberg and Marcel Feenstra. Wichita struggled to break down Milwaukee’s defensive pressure and exceptional goalkeeping last season. The addition of new players such as Geison, Andrew Hoxie and Miguel Ferrer along with solid returners will need to find a way through a tough defense led by 2011-12 All-League selection Joe Hammes if they wish to walk away with a win Friday night.

Keep an eye on: Wichita's Andrew Hoxie

6-foot-4 Wings forward Andrew Hoxie has made a statement so far this season for the Wings. A native of Oklahoma, Hoxie played for the Rochester Lancers a season ago before joining the Wings this offseason, and he has made an immediate impact in attack. Named to the MISL Team of the Week on Tuesday, Hoxie leads the MISL with 14 points, having recording one 3-point goal, five 2-point goals and one assist in two games.
