Monday, November 5, 2012

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Three Harrisburg City Islander players have officially signed to play in the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) for the 2012-2013 season. The Rochester Lancers formally welcomed defender Stephen Basso and forward Garret Pettis to their player roster. Both Basso and Pettis made their indoor debut this weekend, with Pettis scoring his first goal for the Lancers on Saturday night. Islanders Teammate J.T. Noone returns to play in the indoor league professionally with the Baltimore Blast.

“I’m excited for the indoor season with the Lancers. Everyone in the organization from the front office, coaching staff to the players on and off the field has really made me feel welcomed here,” said Basso, “I’m looking forward to another step in my career and hope to help the Lancers win an MISL Championship.”

Basso signed his first professional contract with SV Darmstadt, in 2008. He signed with the USL Second Division expansion franchise Real Maryland Monarchs. Basso signed for Crystal Palace Baltimore in 2009. On March 16, 2010 Baltimore announced the re-signing of Basso to a new contract for the 2010 season. He went on to make 24 league appearances for CPB over two seasons before leaving the club when it ceased operations at the end of 2010. Basso signed with Harrisburg City Islanders of the USL Pro league on April 1, 2011. Harrisburg City re-signed Basso in 2012 and provided two assists this season and scored a PK against New England Revolution.

Pettis’ rookie year with the USL PRO was in 2012. He spent the 2011 season with Reading United AC in the PDL and finished his four year run at Lipscomb University (Div. I A-Sun Conference). In his rookie year with the City Islanders he recorded five goals and one assist.

"I’m really looking forward to the indoor season with the Lancers. It’ll be great to stay fit and competitive in the off (USL PRO) season as well as improve some of the aspects of my technical game,” Pettis said. “I’m looking forward working hard and help take the Lancers to a MISL Championship.”

As a two season veteran of the USL PRO, and second season returning with MISL, J. T.  Noone will find his winter home with the Baltimore Blast. He had 14 goals in 24 games and ranked sixth on the Blast with 33 points. Noone recorded a season-high five points (two goals, one assist) against the SharX (1/27/12). He scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Blast the 10-8 win over the Comets (11/18/11). Noone made his Blast debut in the team’s season opener (11/12/11). Noone spent the last three seasons with the Harrisburg City Islanders and recorded two goals and three assists in 22 games in 2012. He was also signed by the Philadelphia Union (MLS) from July 2010 to March 2011 and spent the 2009 season with the Ocean City Barons (PDL).

The three Islanders teammates, Basso, Noone and Pettis will face each other five times during the season. They meet in Rochester on November 17 and January 1 and meet in Baltimore on January 4, 5, and 25.

The Harrisburg City Islanders will kick off their 10th Anniversary in April of 2013. For more information on the Harrisburg City Islanders visit www.cityislanders.com or 717-441-4625.
