The Details
The Silver Knights return to the MISL for their sophomore campaign featuring many of the veteran players that led them through their inaugural season while adding many new explosive weapons. Returning for the Knights are First Team All-MISL all star and team MVP Nelson Santana, 2012 MISL Rookie of the Year Slavisa Ubiparapovic, and player-coach Ryan Hall. New additions to the squad include local Baldwinsville native and former Rutgers captain Nate Bourdeau. While Bourdeau will be making his professional debut, Matt Clare will be joining the Knights for his second season in the MISL after netting 20 goals in a standout rookie campaign for the Norfolk SharX.
Last year, the Silver Knights finished with a 9-15 record, just two games out of playoff contention behind Rochester.
“With most of us now having a year of experience, I expect that we will be more able to close out games when we have the opportunity and ultimately make the playoffs,” said Ubiparapovic on the upcoming season. “There is no reason why we should not be able to achieve that goal.”
Friday night’s game will mark the first appearance of the Chicago Soul in the MISL, kicking off their inaugural campaign as an expansion franchise. Alex Megson tallied 23 points with the Silver Knights last season, but will return to the War Memorial this time as an opponent. Megson and captain Matt Stewart are two of several veteran players that make up the Soul’s roster. Coach Manny Rojas and his squad will be looking to kick-start their first season in the MISL with a win on Friday night in their debut.
Saturday’s game against Rochester will mark the Lancers’ 2012-2013 season opener. Last year, the Lancers snuck into the playoffs with an 11-13 record, edging out the Silver Knights but losing in the first round to the Baltimore Blast. Mauricio Salles will lead the cross-state rivals after racking up a whopping 81 points last season.
