ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Rochester Lancers today announced the return of nine players for the 2012/13 season. With top players returning for positions across the board, fans can expect a high level of intensity and excitement from Lancers games this season.
“We worked really hard this offseason to bring back our key players,” said Rich Randall, Lancers Vice President. “Our commitment is to maintain player connection with our fans while building a championship caliber team.”
Coming back to defend the net are goalkeepers Patrick Hannigan and Gavin McInerney. With 393 saves, Hannigan was named the Lancers Defensive Player of the Year for the 2011/12 season.
Kyle Manscuk, Jake Schindler and Elliot Fauske will return on defense. Combined, the four players put up 28 points last season. Knapp was named MISL Defensive Player of the Month last January.
Midfielders Jeremy Ortiz and Gary Boughton earned 45 points and 23 points, respectively, during their first season.
Forward Mauricio Salles produced significant points in the Lancers first season. With 81 points, Salles was named the 2011-12 Offensive Player of the Year for the team, in addition to several MISL accolades.
“Soccer legend” Doug Miller will also return this season. Miller was Team MVP in the 2011/12 season after he scored 25 goals, second in team scoring, and earned 66 points.
“I’m proud to have our top players returning for another season,” said Jim Hesch, Lancers Head Coach. “We will have a great blend of heart and talent for a brand of soccer our fans will really enjoy.”
