ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Rochester Lancers today announced that Jim Hesch has been promoted to Head Coach. The Syracuse native has an extensive history of coaching men’s soccer, most recently as assistant coach for the Lancers during the 2011-12 MISL season. Hesch spent 10 years as the men’s soccer head coach at Canisius College, in which he became the school’s all-time wins leader in 2007. Prior to joining the Lancers, Hesch was an assistant soccer coach for the University of Buffalo.
During his playing career, Hesch attended Southern Connecticut University. He won a national championship with the team in 1990. He later transferred to Cortland State and was named a first team All-American.
His professional soccer career started with the with the Harrisburg Heat, where Hesch earned All-Star recognition and achieved the eighth-best single-season total in Heat history. He also starred as a member of the Buffalo Blizzard. In 2002, Hesch won the Major Indoor Soccer League championship with the Philadelphia KiXX.
“In the Lancers’ first season, Coach Hesch displayed his passion, commitment and knowledge of the game,” said Rich Randall, Lancers Vice President. “We are proud to have a head coach of his caliber and experience leading the club for our second season.”
The Lancers will host a pro combine this weekend as the top indoor players from around the world will each vie for the final 2012-13 roster spots. The combine will be held Saturday and Sunday, October 13-14 from 10 a.m.-noon. Tryouts will be held at Total Sports Experience (800 Elmgrove Road) and are open to the public.
The Lancers' home opener is Saturday, November 10 against Chicago Soul FC. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Blue Cross Arena.
