TAMPA, Fla. – A pair of 2012 W-League division champions were honored by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as the Long Island Rough Riders’ Amanda Epstein and D.C. United Women’s Didi Haracic were named Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. The pair lead the list of W-League talent honored for the NCAA contributions this week.
Epstein, who helped the Rough Riders capture the Northeast Division, continued her clutch play for Marist against Siena as she netted her second game-winning goal in as many games against the Saints with a tally in the 73rd minute. Haracic, who appeared in eight matches for the Atlantic Division champion D.C. United Women this past summer, anchored a Loyola defense that didn’t allow a goal all weekend. She stopped all eight shots that she saw, including five against Manhattan, to run her shutout streak to 194:49.New York Magic alum Sandita McDermott was tabbed as Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week for the fourth time this season, tying the league record. McDermott posted back-to-back shutouts as Bucknell picked up six points during the weekend. She stopped five shots in a 1-0 victory against Holy Cross, and logged four more in Bucknell’s 2-0 blanking of defending League champion Army. McDermott takes over the League lead with six shutouts this season, placing her second in Bucknell single-season history.
Former Bradenton athletics standout Erika Tymrak returned from an ankle injury to play a part in both of Florida’s game-winning goals last week to share SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Tymrak scored the winner in UF’s 2-0 win at LSU and then assisted on Adriana Leon’s go-ahead goal in a 2-1 victory at Texas A&M.
The University of South Florida’s Taylor Patterson was selected as Big East Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Bulls earn a pair of road shutouts against conference opponents. The 2012 Vancouver Whitecaps FC standout played 180 minutes in two wins last week, 1-0 at UConn and 1-0 at Providence.
Former Michigan Hawk Haley Kopmeyer was chosen as Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after the senior posted her eighth shutout of the season in Michigan's victory against Northwestern. She played all 90 minutes for the No. 23 Wolverines to garner her fourth Defensive Player of the Week honor and the sixth weekly award of her career.
Baylor’s Bri Campos, was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after she had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 double overtime victory at Texas Tech. The freshman, who played the past two seasons with the Colorado Rush, had the game-winning golden goal, her first career goal, in the 105th minute to give Baylor its first win in Lubbock since 2004.
