WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Wilmington Hammerheads have officially announced the promotion of one of their current employees to the position of General Manager. Previously holding the title of Sales Manager for both the 2011 and 2012 regular seasons, Matt Sadler has recently been named the Hammerheads’ General Manager for the club’s upcoming 2013 season.
Accepting the position of General Manager has required Sadler to step down from his current off-season position, Head Coach of the Cape Fear Community College Men’s Soccer team. Sadler has been the Head Coach for Cape Fear during the Hammerheads’ off-season for the past two years and his final season will come to a close before the end of October.
“I’m excited for this opportunity,” said Sadler. “We have a great Hammerheads staff and we all look forward to keeping the Wilmington Hammerheads the best professional sports entertainment value in southeast North Carolina.”
Sadler earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management from Methodist University in 2003. While at Methodist, Sadler was a four-year starter on the Men’s Soccer team and was named captain his senior season.
Prior to joining the Hammerheads staff in 2011, Sadler spent three seasons as the Men’s Assistant Soccer Coach at Methodist University. He also held positions of Assistant Athletic Director, Physical Education teacher, and boys and girls soccer coach at Fayetteville Christian School, with the boys’ soccer team advancing to the State Final Four twice.
“Matt has stepped in the last two years and has done a phenomenal job for us,” said Hammerheads Majority Owner Bill Rudisill. “His promotion to General Manager is an indication of his hard work and dedication to the Hammerheads and I look forward to Matt leading our team. We have a tremendous group of individuals in the Hammerheads’ office who are committed to our club.”
Although there may be some new changes on the field, behind the scenes the Wilmington Hammerheads will continue into the 2013 season with their current full-time staff from the 2012 regular season; Head Coach David Irving will remain Director of Soccer, Danielle Dorantich will remain the Marketing and Public Relations Manager, and Danielle Osborne will continue as the Operations Manager.
