TAMPA, Fla. - The Super Y-League announced today six teams that have qualified for the 2012 North American Finals from December 7-11 at the world-class facilities of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
Kalamazoo Kingdom’s U12 boys, New Jersey Rangers FC’s U13 boys, Force Football Club Academy’s U14 girls, FASA’s U15 girls, Ottawa Fury’s U13 boys, and FC America’s U13 girls will visit the pristine beaches of southwest Florida and enjoy the top-quality competition in store for teams from throughout the United States and Canada.
The Kalamazoo Kingdom U12 boys squad finished second in the Midwest division with a 4-3-1 record. Trevor Towghi and Isaac Toms will look to lead the team up front having scored 11 goals between them during the season.
The U13 boys age group is shaping up with the addition of New Jersey Rangers FC, Ottawa Fury, and FC America. Kieran Patrick’s Rangers team qualified out of the Mid Atlantic division with a 9-5-2 record and are led by Ervin Gjeli who scored eight goals during league play. The Ottawa Fury’s run through the New England division ended with a 9-3-1 record. Defenses will have to prepare for Abdullah Juma as he terrorized opponents scoring 13 goals in 2012. Scott Brody’s FC America squad finished second overall in the Southeast division with a 7-3-0 record. Another player opponents will have to take note of is Asyed Sanchez whose 13 goals led the entire division.
With three teams already qualified out of the Midwest division, Force Football Club Academy will send a fourth to the North American Finals as the U14 girls squad will compete for a national championship. Adriana Ramon leads the team in both goals and assists tallying four in each department. Rounding out this week’s list of qualified teams is FASA soccer’s U15 girls. Pete Cinalli’s squad finished second in the South Atlantic with a 5-2-1 record. They’ll look to the combination of Shannon Wratchford (four goals, five assists) and Taylor Hudgins (four goals, two assists) to lead the way come December’s national championships.
In its 14th consecutive year, the SYL North American Finals has helped launched the careers of many notable U.S. soccer stars such as Jozy Altidore, Juan Agudelo and 2010 Gatorade National High School Player of the Year Mollie Pathman.
With 130 teams competing, the total daily attendance for December’s Super Y-League North American Finals is expected to exceed 15,000, and fill more than 7,000 hotel rooms in Manatee and Sarasota Counties. Earlier this year, IMG hosted the Super-20 Finals, the Super Y-League Olympic Development Program (ODP) National Camps for boys and girls, and the USL PRO Combine.
The world’s largest and most advanced multi-sport training and education complex, IMG Academy has hosted a myriad of soccer team training camps in 2012, including clubs such as the Seattle Sounders, D.C. United, Columbus Crew, Sweden’s Malmö FF, as well as the U.S. Women’s National Team preparing for the London Olympic Games and the Antigua & Barbuda Men’s National Team preparing for World Cup qualifying. The Super-20 League North American Finals were also held in Bradenton from July 19-22.
