MANASSAS, VA
– The Northern Virginia Majestics dropped their final match of the season 4-0 to the Fredericksburg Impact Saturday night at Hellwig Memorial Park to close out their season.  Despite their two game winning streak, the home side Majestics spent much of the night defending a persistent Fredericksburg attack.

Playing their fourth game in seven days, the sluggish Majestics struggled throughout the first half to find any offensive thrust at all.  In contrast, Fredericksburg pressured relentlessly, fully aware of the playoff implications on the line.  The Impact win sets the stage for their matchup with the Virginia Beach Piranhas on Sunday to determine the final seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

The Northern Virginia defense managed to repel the Fredericksburg attack throughout the early stages of the game, but surrendered the ultimate game-winner in the 25th minute.  Impact forward Emily Dale found teammate Kelsey Pardue open deep inside the penalty area and the Fredericksburg midfielder had little trouble beating Majestic keeper Cheta Emba for the 1-0 advantage.

Dale herself found the net twelve minutes later, nailing a strike untouched on a pass from Nicole Marks for the 2-0 advantage.

Fredericksburg cemented the match with two goals midway in the second half.  Fredericksburg stalwart Missy Wycinsky picked up an errant defensive clear and blasted her shot off the fingertips of Emba in the 57th minute.  Shortly thereafter, Wycinsky set up a Becca Fisher finish to cap the 4-0 result.

“We have made some strides in a lot of areas since last season,” commented General Manager Tim Schweitzer. “But to finish the season with this type of result shows we have a lot left to do.”

“Regardless of tonight’s game, I remain exceptionally proud of this team,” affirmed Schweitzer.  “They are an exceptional group of ladies who fought all season and stand as a testament to the attitude and improvements this team is making.”

The Northern Virginia Majestics will return to United Soccer Leagues W-League action next summer. The 2013 season schedule will be released in late winter/early spring.
